What's keeping it down is the absence of a few big name anyweights. The mid weights used to draw quite a bit also, not just the heavies.

Not everyone loved watching Tyson/Bonecrusher and the hugger fights. Personally, I like the mids alot better.

I still like boxing better than MMA. But then I also grew up with it so it's much more familiar. But MMA fights can be just as boring as you mentioned earlier.
