Check-raising isn't lying. (When you say "I check," and subsequently, "I raise," you are telling the truth. You are not making any false statement. You are making a true statement in the hope that your opponent will draw an incorrect inference from it.)

Lying about your golf handicap doesn't have to be "like" anything in poker. But if we have to pick something that it's like, how's about it's like saying you're a losing player at seven-card stud when in fact you're not?
