I'm a SpinRite/GRC/Steve Gibson fan and SpinRite is definitely worth a shot but the OP mentioned the drive was making "terrible noises" which often indicates a physical hardware failure of the drive. That is something SpinRite can't fix. But it might still be worth a shot if his data is worth the price of the software.
Steve Gibson says it isn't a matter of IF a hard drive fails but instead WHEN.
