I agree with this completely. I play at Red Rock alot and for every old tight nit the jackpot brings in, there are 3 people coldcalling my raises (limit) with any pair or suited connector to get the seemingly impossible to hit BBJP. I have mixed feelings as well - hate the drop - but don't mind the extra action.
If there has to be a jackpot, I like the way the alladin used to do it (haven't played there in a year so not sure if it is the same) with the high hands that were reasonably easy to hit. Seemed to bring in fishy types, just like the wheel at Excalibur and actually makes it a little fun since you can actually get them.
I'm not in favor of jackpots per se, but am not convinced that they "attract" the wrong people.
