Others seem to have already made all the points I wanted to bring up, but based on my experience living with a Grey, I'd emphasize:

They are very smart, but require a lot of attention. If not given enough attention, they will suffer (feather picking, anxiety, etc.)

With a Grey in the house, you'll need to limit any noise (or words) you wouldn't want to hear over and over for years. High pitched noises ("low battery beep" on the smoke detector, alarm clock, etc.) are favorites of our Grey and something that is "cute" the first time the bird does it can be very annoying the 1000th time. We try not to buy any phones, microwaves, etc. that don't have a "silent" option.

Like gwhiz_612, I moved the Grey across the room b/c it was making a "squawk" noise that was hurting my ear.
