Re: ***Official Irish Poker Open thread***
Hi Gobbo,
In Ireland it is customary for big events (a la the Dublin leg of the EPT) to be held in Hotels. This is due to the fact that the Dublin cardrooms (and other cardrooms around the country) generally can't facilitate tournaments with more than 150 runners. The tournament will be run by the staff of one of the Dublin cardrooms however, and from tomorrow afternoon on the place will be transformed into a temporary poker room with a full array of sidegame action.
There are a couple of card - rooms // casinos quite close to where you are staying. The "Fitzwilliam Card Club" and the the "Sporting Emporium" are within wallking distance - essentially the city centre. Ask at reception and they will point you in the right direction I'm sure. You will only find some low buyin tournaments and small stakes Pot Limit cash action on a Wednesday night though.
As for the tournament itself, it is actually expected to sell out and hit 700 runners. So I wouldn't expect an overlay. Bear in mind that the structure on day one is maybe a bit faster than you are used to.
10,000 chips // 1 Hr blinds
25 / 50
50 / 100
100 / 200
150 / 300
150 / 300 25
200 / 400 25
300 / 600 / 50
400 / 800 / 50
600 / 1200 / 100
That is day one in any case. Anyway, I recommend you take a gander around the city centre.
Can't wait to get going on Friday myself. Best of luck to ya.
