it depends where the cards ended up being 'mucked' in the several situations like this ive seen come up live.

example: at lucky chances in colma, cards have to be discarded onto or past the white ring about 16 inches from the edge of the table in order to be considered mucked.

if a player throws down his cards in disgust but they dont cross over or touch that line, then the cards are considered live. once they touch or cross that line, they are mucked irrevocably.
