Even here in the land of goodness and virtue there have been plenty of posts about how cool it is to circumvent the waiting list system by waiting to hear a "Last call XYZ for 10/20 Omaha" and stepping up to say "Yes, that's me", or claiming to be returning from a dinner break but really not. Maybe not so much since they expanded, but people will do any crummy thing they can think of to get a seat rather than wait, and then tell you any story they think you might believe. It's conceivable the floor did a regular a favor, but just as conceivable that a player took advantage of the system's slapdashery.
