Neither one is relevant here. Your dorm contract probably states that alcohol/drugs, etc. is forbidden in your dorms. The university probably reserved the right to search your room or your person.
Its just like when you go to a football game and they check your bags for stuff.
Without knowing more, I would say that you were going to be searched no matter what.
