The two problems are related.

If you are playing exclusively for set value, you'll have to win at least $600 every time you hit your set if you are limp-calling a $50 raise preflop (accounting for the times you get set v. set or sucked out some other way).

This just isn't going to happen against good opponents, out of position, especially since a late position raiser could have anything.
