Default Re: Poker and Drug Testing

[ QUOTE ]
If poker is going to be taken seriously as a competitive sport it is integral that we have a governing body make sure that people aren't taking coke or shooting heroin during the games.

[/ QUOTE ]

side note: lol, at competitive "sport" - legitimate competition would have been better

[ QUOTE ]
Drugs give people an unfair advantage and we need to eradicate our game before people start thinking that poker players are just a bunch of degenerates.

[/ QUOTE ]

People who are going to think of poker players as degenerate are pretty much going to do so with or without drugs.

I think that it would not be feasible to test players, especially since many drugs they might use could be legal in certain situations (i.e. ritalin, beta blockers, etc.) How would you choose which drugs to test for?

I think there are probably just as many (if not more) instances where drugs are harmful to the player as there are where they are helpful, so it probably all evens out anyway.

Plus, the casinos wouldn't want to spend the money or reduce their profits by limiting the entries to sober/clean people.
