Three cards in sequence are frequently OK, as long as your straight cards are live. Gapped three-straights can be OK in the right spots. A hand like AKx is pretty suspect. AK is a solid starting hand in Hold'em. You'll flop a pair about 1/3 of the time, and top pair/top kicker is frequently good enough to win. In stud, you're paying for cards one at a time, and one pair or two pair isn't going to hold up as often. I'll play AKx as a steal or limp in late with it, but it's nothing to get excited about. If AKx is a weak hand, where do you think that puts T85?
