I have most frequently heard the term "Harvard of the South" in reference to Rice. Probably Emory is second. I don't hear it much in reference to Duke, probably partially b/c Duke isn't far enough South and partially b/c Duke has enough of an independent reputation that it doesn't need to place itself in the shadow of another school. It wasn't used in reference to Vanderbilt much when I was in college, but seems to be more so now.
