Wow ... I would disagree with that. I would say we're 50% lawyers at best when we start our first job after graduateion. My experience was that law school poorly prepares most lawyers for actual law practice. Not that you could do without the law school education, but there are so many other skills you have to learn on the job to be a truly good lawyer.

A lawyer might have been in the top 5% of his class, but when the first client calls and asks for advice, the book learning just doesn't cut what years of experience gives you.

OK, very good point. What she meant was that you learn about 80% of what you need to get out of law school in your first year. Law school could really be a 1 year program. I completely agree that upon graduating, you know absolutely nothing about the actual practice of law.
