IMO you played your hand fine. I could think of a smooth call preflop.
I like your reasoning preflop and think that otherwise very good players at this site often overestimates their chances of realizing marginal preflop value postflop when OOP.
For me the flop is a no-brainer but I have always been a folder

Your friends play doesn't match my playing style at all

I would have folded preflop
I would not have raised flop.
I would not have bet turn.
I would not have bet river.
I would not have folded river to a raise.
