Default Player folds cards and grabs them back? Ruling?

Last night I was in a 2-5 NL game sitting in the 1 seat. I have AJ, and board is AAQ2. Seat 4 (drunk kid)across from me bets 100 and I push for 400 and he announces call. I flip my cards and he groans and doesn't expose his cards but holds them up so that the players to his sides are able to see them.

River is a K and he angrily tosses his cards towards the muck, one card falling short and the other landing on top of my face up cards. Both of his cards are face down. The player next to him says "split pot man" and the drunk kid beats the dealer to the cards and flips up A10. Dealer calls the floor and floor ruled it a split. Is this correct?

The 'coach' sitting next to drunk kid is a major donator so I didn't kick him in the nuts too hard. But he did get a warning.
