It doesn't really matter whether or not the average salary is on the rise. GMJ is an average player. You could replace him with a minor leaguer for the minimum of around ~300k. It's just a horrible waste of payroll to spend 50 million dollars when you can fill that void for almost nothing and barely lose ability at that position.
