so i can't go to autozone and have them hookup a device to the computer in my car and do a quick scan for free or minimal cost?

There really needs to be a sticky in this forum regarding a lot of misconceptions about auto repairs.

Autozone will scan your engine for codes when your check engine light is on. They then take any existing codes, look them up in a book, and GUESS as to what triggered the code. They then try to sell you something to fix it.

This is not a diagnosis. Knowing the code is the first step, but AZ employs mostly unknowledgable kids who are basically trained to do what I described above and nothing more. They don't have the knowledge, experience or equipment to go further with the diagnosis, not do they care to. They just want to sell you something and get you out of their face.

I'll elaborate further if necessary.
