The above is a link to an old SI article (the formatting in the link sucks) about the police shooting of four young basketball players. It's a long feature article, and some of the relevant information comes at the end.

I suspect that many of the people who have come to the defense of racial profiling will point out that a)the young man driving didn't have a driver's license, and b)the van started to move backward (when the driver thought he had put it in park) and the cops felt threatened.

In response to a), note that the cops had no way of knowing he didn't have a license. In response to b), I'd submit that the force used by the two police officers was excessive. However, it's not really the point: These four guys were stopped for no reason other than being black, and the officer approached the car with his glock pointed at the driver. This sort of sh*t just doesn't happen to white guys like me.
