This would be my first tendency too. However, if these opponents are likely to peel with all sorts of nonesense (overs, bare diamonds, gutters) I like your play. I also like your river plan. And I think the paired 8's will save you from your opponents value betting as tricky players like to assume their oppoenents are tricky as well.
