Did you have a more specific read on the button? I think turn raise is a great move if you know the button is a player who is likely to take a shot when he reads the rest of the table as weak do to checking through the turn.
The river check is good - I think you're behind too often to bet, but you will often get a free showdown in this spot. Obviously your bet will always be called here when you're behind.
