Default 5-10 NL with QQ!!!!!!

I have been at this table for a couple hrs and the guy to my right has about 15K in front of him. He is the typical LAG and loves to splash chips. He also loves to shove huge bets to the center on bluffs. In this hand he opens for 100 to go.....yes you read that right....10X the BB! That is his "status quo" raise. I look down at QQ and I have about 1400 in my stack. Even though this guy could easily be raising here on AToff, I choose to simply call for two reasons. First the whole table is left to act....and secondly if he did wake up with a hand he could easily wipe me clean. It is folded to the button who is a classic caller and we see the flop 3 handed. Pot is 300.

Flop is 7s 5s 2h

UTG fires 200 quickly. At this moment I would love to win this 500 right now with no further action AND I know that I must try to knock out the button and get this thing heads up if I can. So I make it 500 to go. The button folds and UTG calls. UTG then announces "I check" before the turn is dealt. Now I have him on possibly a hand like 99 or AK.... but he absolutely could have AA or KK. I just dont feel he flopped a set on that board.

The turn is 4d

UTG has already checked and now this is where I may be incorrect in my play. The pot is now 1300 and I have 800 left. I know that if he checked AA or KK then I am just going to lose my stack....its that simple. I am not turning back now. So......and this might be the mistake....I checked it back. I did it for this reason alone: Knowing this man is a HABITUAL bluffer and bully, I thought there was a reasonable chance he could have AK or the like. I also KNEW that if I checked behind him on the turn, he would bet into me on 5th street regardless of his hand and I could snap off that bluff. I realize I gave a free card to AK, but he is a 7-1 dog to catch. If I move in on the turn, I lose to AA and KK anyway...but he probably folds AK there. If I check the turn, he bets AA and KK on the river and I still lose...but I also catch the bluff I am certain will come.

River is a total blank.

UTG announces "500"! I quickly call and he shows JJ and I win the pot.

Now as I said, I realize the pot was BIG on 4th street and my check might have been incorrect, but I felt that a move in there by me would cause him to fold A high. I knew I was going to go broke to AA or KK anyway...so was my thinking valid at all? Was I correct to give a free card to a 7-1 shot in the hopes of snapping a bluff? Or is a move in on the turn the only play?
