Default Re: FW 1-2 NL, continued. . .

[ QUOTE ]
I was just talking to my cousin on my lunch break, about bet sizes at this game. I haven't played it yet, but he has. He confirmed that you see a lot of strange bets in relation to the pot size. He was telling me of people coming in for $25 bets with no limpers before them.

So - is this just a FW thing at this particular game, or is it common in most NL cash games to see flop bets of over 6X the pot and 12XBB PF bets??

I don't know about other casinos, but this kind of retarded overbetting is very common at FW $1-2 NL. The hands can be quite entertaining: $2 limp - limp - limp - then, "Lets make it $25 to go", which is code for "I have JJ, I have no ability to fold a hand post-flop, and I'm deathly afraid that the flop will come with an A, K or a Q, or any other potentially worrisome cards, and I won't know what to do at that point, so I'm happy to take down the $8 that is in the pot right now."

The thing is, if you had AA and had just bought in for the $100, making it $25 to go is probably not a bad play at all at a FW $1/2 table because you'll probably get at least one dude to call you with KJ off or something like that.

As you can imagine though, you'll get a lot of these ridiculously large preflop raises with crap like AJ, KQ, KJ, etc., etc. You just have to figure out whether the person doing the raising knows what he is doing or is a typical FW $1-2 idiot, which is usually fairly obvious.

Also, most FW $1-2 players have no idea what they are doing after the flop comes, which is in part why see you see the retarded large preflop bets. You'll often see a large preflop bet, followed by an all in on the flop. All you need to do is hit 2 pair or better and you're golden! Sometimes all you need to do is hit top pair, because hands like AK, AQ will go all in on the flop too or make a big continuation bet.

I love the FW $1/2 tables.
