I raise 54s preflop from the CO, especially with the button and blinds having full stacks. On the flop, I'm raising his bet 3.5x and calling a push. If he calls the flop, I'm now very happy to get it in on the turn before a river card kills our action. We've probably got him drawing to trips or a 2/6 but villain doesn't know this.
You need to stick a large raise in somewhere. If you're waiting for the turn, fine, but don't minraise. You want his stacks and this isn't going to happen with a pot of around $30 on the river.
