I think it depends a lot on the forum. In OOT, there's a new page-ful of threads every hour. If nobody sees you at first, they won't see you at all.
In the Software forum, that's not a problem, so I try to convince people to bump less. If they post in the morning, late evening is really the earliest I'll let fly w/o comment.
