Re: NLTRN: Bluff 3-betting and bluff check-raising (Part I)

Thanks for the response, Jay. The randomising point is well taken. I suppose the percentage of raising where you would otherwise have called depends on the opponent.

Anyone else? Come on, guys....

Re: Discuss: Five Basic Mistakes to Look For In an Opponent

[ QUOTE ]
Donk-betting the flop leaves your opponent in control of the pot size and the situation. Also, it's hard to both donk-bet your good hands and have hands left over that are worth calling if...

NLTRN: Bluff 3-betting and bluff check-raising (Part I)

I've been reviewing my play over the last month or so, and have found that there are two things that I am not doing half as much as I used to, and certainly nowhere near as much as I thought I was....

Re: Discuss: Five Basic Mistakes to Look For In an Opponent

Oh, and a question of my own:

You talk about 3-betting as the main defence to the player who (correctly) raises a large percentage of his button hands. Do you see this as preferable to calling and...

Not to speak for the author at all, but I believe that you have hit upon a few of the differences between cash game and tournament HU. The author specifically states:

Re: NLTRN 200 - Mid pair + OESD facing shove from new passive player

He's a passive player, who has shown aggression two streets running. It's a dangerous board, and he could easily have the King. His overbet on the flop certainly suggests a strong hand which he feels...

Re: $220 HUSNG street by street

I think check/calling is weak. We have top pair and a big flush draw - are we really that scared that he's made his draw? And if he has, he can't know we have such a strong re-draw to beat him, and...

Re: HUSNG Assertion: You should never limp.

[ QUOTE ]
why anyone would limp in position is beyond me

[/ QUOTE ]

Because against tight/passive players, you can turn trash hands into small winners by bluffing effectively postflop.

Re: 33$ HU sng: AK hits the turn but gets a lot of action

You're going to fold TPTK against a LAG on a turn with no flushes, straights or pairs on board? Please tell me you're kidding.

I would shove the turn without thinking. I need a damn good reason...

Re: $11 NLTRN - TP w/36o facing min-RR - unsure of this one

I agree about leading - at this stage of the game, there's no call for a c/r all-in "f***-off" line, and a normal c/r doesn't get a fold often enough given that there aren't many turn cards you like....

Re: $115 NLTRN aces up get minraised

Certainly call - you're ahead often enough for that.

Evaluate the river, but (unless the river is spectacular) be prepared to check/autocall 1/2 pot bet. Anything from 1/2 pot to full pot is a...
