The idea is that you will typically be investing the same amount of money on 5th and 6th as would've invested by just calling 5th, so it is worthwhile if there is any increase in equity.

I didn't consider that at the time and just called. I suppose another benefit of raising is that I might miraculously get the asian guy to fold aces (altough that may be impossible).

From a $20/$40 Stud High game at the Bellagio. I don't remember the upcards exactly, but a 2 brings it in, a loose and fairly passive player completes with a 2 up after it folds to him in late...
