I think the raise size is good (unless he will decide you'd raise bigger with good made hands). If he has a flush he isn't folding for more and I think it accomplishes the same as a $3k+ ...

i can see how capping this from time to time would be a good play.
the hand will prolly be easier to play postflop, we might get a freecard on the flop and often dont save money by not capping it...
