You could move up a level to clear bonuses faster for those bonuses that have an expiration date. For others, you can choose to stick with a limit you are comfortable with.

I tend to read through a book first, or at least a decent amount of it. I usually recall and apply certain things that stick out the most. After a while, I'll go back and re-read the book/sections....
