Cellular doesn't have to be too expensive but it won't be blazing fast either. For example I've heard of people getting the unlimited internet plans for their sidekick and putting the SIM card into...

Re: Presentation of statistics and probabilities...

[ QUOTE ]
Take your sample space to be whatever. Then P(Y) = .000001 P(Y|X) = 7.142857142857143*^-7

So P(Y|X) / P(Y) = 1.4

[/ QUOTE ]
Didn't he state P(Y|X) = 1.4/1000000?

I...

Re: Mathematics of Poker - trying to solve a problem

I agree with tarheeljks. A Normal distribution is often more analytically tractable but you shouldn't try and use it for everything. You could come up with a similar answer using the Central Limit...

Re: Computer shuts down when playing games

110degC is WAY to hot. nothing should be that hot.

The typical cause (if you are not over clocking, and some times if you are) of instability under load (ie games) is a bad PSU. Some times bad...

Re: Weird one - my keyboard doesnt type the right symbols...

If he has the wrong IME selected he can buy 1000 keyboards and it won't help.

moral of the story: New hardware won't fix a software (or settings) problem.

Re: Using rubber gloves when working with components?

plastic/rubber/latex gloves would be bad because they do not conduct electricity so if a static change were to build up it would only be able to dissipate the static change through your components. ...

Re: Easy Probability Problem

There is a counting argument that may be more clear.
There are 13C2 ways of choosing two different face valued cards if order matters then there are 2*(13C2) ways.

Choose two different cards,...

Re: Easy Probability Problem

If you mean exactly 3 of the same cars (ie 7777 does not count) then probably the most clear way is to calculate
yyyx yyxy yxyy and xyyy and sum them.
yyyx: 1/1*3/51*2/50*(1-1/49)
yyxy:...

Re: chance of rolling a higher number (ties lose)

I get 15/36~=0.417.
