Re: moving from physics under grad to engineering grad

surftheiop is correct. Most engineers only get advanced degrees to pursue academia or to specialize in a specific design engineering field.

Although it's not uncommon for non-engineering majors...

However, the speed is significantly greater than the vertical velocity component that the speed is approximately the horizontal velocity component.

you can see that...

Re: aerodynamics question

units must be consistent.

674 fpm vertical
78 knots=131.6fps*60s/min=7896ft/m

aoc=arctan(674/7896)=4.87 degrees

Re: help with some calc 2

no it shouldnt. You can revolve any solid around any arbitrary axis. Generally, the x or y axes are chosen. In this situation, x=-1 was selected as the axis; therefore, you have to account for...

Re: help with some calc 2

your second one is wrong too.

Re: help with some calc 2

jay shark did this incorrectly, and the fact that he obtained -1/3 as a volume should have made it obvious.

To solve the problem, find the cross sectional area and integrate to get volume.

If...

Re: help with some calc 2

You use shell's method for this problem: V=2*pi*integral(p(x)*h(x))

p(x) is the distance from the axis of revolution
h(x) is the height of the differential of area

I set the integrals up for...
