Re: Blind steal turns into marginal hand

Personally, I think it is entirely appropriate to check the flop here for pot control. I don't think betting the flop is bad either, I think either play is defendable. It really depends on your...

Re: Let\'s talk about Way Ahead/Way Behind (rather long)

I really disagree with your analysis of villian's play, he does not sound "tight passive" or a "nut peddler" to me, he sounds like a pure "level 1 thinking donk".

I don't know how you can...

Re: Rules for Poker Tracker

I do something similar except I apply a filter to the levels of the blinds. For example, on Pokerstars I play a lot of the rebuy tourneys. Obviously the way someone plays changes a lot between...

Re: Test your hand-reading ability...

Ok, now I will tell you hero's hole cards: they are 98 of diamonds, with the ten of diamonds on the board.

Do you bluff all-in after villian's minraise? Is that an awful play?

Test your hand-reading ability...

This hand comes from a $22 rebuy on Pokerstars. About a third of the field remains, you have T20,000, which is about average. Button has T16,800. Blinds are 300/600. No reads on button --- Hero...

Re: What are all of the different tournament result tracking sites?

As far as I can tell, thepokerdb.com is not very useful --- all it shows are tournaments that the person has placed in, so there is no way to evaluate ability, just how "much" they play. By far the...

Re: How useful do you find combinations ?

Sorry, Alan, but this is just plain wrong. This is what you need to look at:

1) What is the prior distribution of hands my opponent could have had? This is where the combinations come into play....

Re: So you guys want to see a LAG in action? (Full HH)

Well done. There are only two hands that I "definitely" play differently here. In 29 and 87, the worst possible hands IMO for restealing with are Ace and King small. If you are called you are...

Re: Am I folding this AJ to a shove?

Nope, once you raise preflop, you are committed to calling his reraise, there is no "safe" amount to reraise.

But reraising an EP raiser here is just simply bad poker. If he calls you are in bad...

Re: QQ very early in stars million gtd

Ok, I am going to disagree with everyone else here. I think you played the hand perfectly, and betting the flop is overrated. How is betting the flop going to get you information? Suppose you bet...

Re: God I Hate Flat-Callers

I would expand the likely hands that uclabruinz suggested as follows (remember he checked his BB preflop):

Any J,T,2
KQ,98,22-99

Out of these, the only hands you are behind on the turn are: ...

Re: X-Post from Books: Discussion about Poker Tournament Formula

I personally believe that this topic is much more complicated than either Mason or Arnold has presented. I think the REAL answer is a worthwhile task, however, and the ideas presented are...

Re: Calling From The Big Blind

Keep in mind that flopping two pair or trips (or a straight) is not even a good result here, as if you get action in these cases it is likely that you are second best! These hands are stack-killers...

Re: WSOP Main Event Day 2A Sweat

I have an ideal draw for day 2 --- table 164, seat 2 (I am James Cox, with 42,075). No pros at my table (unlike day 1, where I was at the featured table with 5 full-time pros including Phil Hellmuth...

Re: Hand reading exercise from hand at featured table in Day 1B of ME

Ok, more info and an analysis of where I went wrong:

The river was a blank, and I thought about how much to bet. I figured he was unlikely to call an all-in on the river because he probably knew...

Re: Hand reading exercise from hand at featured table in Day 1B of ME

Good guess. I have the nuts, in fact it is exactly the A8 of diamonds. I thought this is really an exercise in extracting the most while not leaving myself vulnerable.

My guess since he was...

Hand reading exercise from hand at featured table in Day 1B of ME

Hero is me with about 10k. Villian is sitting directly to the left of me: top pro Randy Jensen (you have probably seen him on TV on WPT) who has been playing very loosy goosey, making a lot of calls...

Re: Second day list

I played at the featured table (with 5 top pros including Randy Jensen and Phil Hellmuth) on Day 1B, so look for me on TV! I finished with 42,075 chips and will be playing at Table 164 Seat 2 on...

Re: Flop Decision w/ Bottom Two Pair

There is absolutely no reason to push this hand, you are in-position. There are a lot of hands he could hold here:

The ones that currently are ahead of you are:

AJ,J9,KK,QQ,TT,KQ,KT...

Re: So you want to play LAG?

You "float" in-position. That is, you call his flop bet and see what he does on the turn. Most players will not fire two barrels without something (or if they do, the second barrel is a small one)....

Re: Live MTT, late QQ tough decision

Just curious, regarding your preflop re-raise. What do you do here if he re-reraises you a stack-committing rereraise?

Re: Shaniac Min-Check-Raises Me

I just don't see this kind of play made very often by a decent player with just overcards. You might, but it looks too much like someone trying to see if their hand is good. If they have overcards...

Re: Shaniac Min-Check-Raises Me

This is actually a great play by Shaniac. The bet is a small gamble by him, but can look really scary to you. If you call it, half your stack is in which does not give you odds to call an all-in...

Re: Shortstacked 99 in big blind facing raise

Ok, let's look at what happens if you stop-n-go in each of these:

1) You hit set (12%). Let's assume you milk it like you would in the case I mentioned earlier, rather than automatically going...
