Re: The Way it Really Is

[ QUOTE ]
Do you enjoy it when you cop a terrible beat? Or an extreme series of them?

Winning money and copping terrible beats are related. But beats feel terrible when they happen. That's what...

Re: Check-Raising into the Nuts

K5x is a lot different from AKx. A lot. And someone also pointed out that you needed to know who bet on the flop.

I know that it's hard to recall all the details of every hand, but there are only...

Re: 66 SB Defense/River bluff 10/20 Motor City

I think the value of your play depends on your motivation for making it. If you made this play because villain is taking stabs when people show weakness and you want to let him know that he can't...

[ QUOTE ]
What was a better way to play this hand?

[/ QUOTE ]
A better way was to lose more money.

Checking the flop is bad. Checking the turn is worse. Checking the river after the turn...

Re: Sorry - last one for today

Jeez, dude, if you're willing to fold your flush for one bet on the river in a big pot, you really have to evaluate why you got involved in the hand in the first place. What hand were you hoping to...

Re: The Way it Really Is

[ QUOTE ]
I know I can't make money at poker without other players making errors. But I know bad beats are terrible. Why can't we acknowledge and celebrate them as such?

Re: Is chasing higher ranked hands ever justified?

[ QUOTE ]
I understand the concepts of pot odds and hand rankings based on mathematics, but if there is really no defense in limit games against chasing - what can you do other than bet once and...

Re: River Raise

For starters I think you're underestimating the need for you to be able to represent a plausible hand. Even players who aren't especially analytical can intuitively smell when something looks fishy....

Re: River Raise

Even with the fixed action, I don't understand.

What hand are you trying to represent on the river? What hand range to you put CO on?

Re: PFA question/checkup

Thanks for the responses, guys. Bluffoon, I really appreciate you going out to PT and digging through my stats.

It makes a lot of intuitive sense that the game is more aggressive today and that I...

Re: NL€100 - A4s, standard turn decision

All of these 'aggressor IP' hands are a bit different. For this particular hand, I think it's a pretty easy turn bet planning to take a free showdown. If you get raised, you'll probably fold...

PFA question/checkup

I haven't played seriously for about 6 months. A couple of weeks ago I remembered I had small amount of money (enough to play some 2/4) sitting at Pokerstars and so I figured I'd play it.

So I've...

This might be the single post where I spent the most time flipping back and forth between the responses and the hand description to see the action.

You'd definitely get a note in your file if I...

Re: Ks Kh v. Kc 6c: KK misplayed?

With no read, I'm 3-betting this turn as well. Your PF 3-bet against a steal doesn't mean you have a premium hand and you can expect to be raised with a lot of Qx hands, especially ones that picked...

Re: quick flop check-up, KQs whiffs (5/10)

Somewhat read dependent. Against normal people I'd c-bet and plan to put in another bet on a safe turn. This is a good flop for you, since your opponents likely missed it.

KQ is probably at...

Re: Count my outs...

Give yourself full credit for the case 3.
Give yourself about half credit for the remaining 9 outs to a FH.
Assume you have to improve to win well over 100% of the time.

5.5 outs means you need...

Re: What to do with these 55\'s

You played it fine. If you're winning more than 50% when called on the river, it's certainly not by much.

Re: What Does This mean ?17/11/3, 27/21/4 or 42/25/2?

These are PokerTracker stats that give '% of hands played'/'% of hands raised preflop'/'aggression after the flop'.

Good numbers are in the range of about 20/10/2.

For the people you list:...

Re: Live 3/6 TT on the BTN / Potawatomi

I don't think this is too tough of a flop fold, only getting 13-1. Only the two Ts can make you feel good here. With sb betting out into 5 people and 2 of them calling, you're either already way...

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that we have about a 10-12% chance of being ahead on the river. We know villain doesn't have AK. But you stil think we should bet.

1) Post this in the Small Stakes Short-handed (or Beats Brags and Variance) forum.

2) Use the hand converter so we can read the action.

3) Tell us why you're baffled. If you don't expect to...
