Re: Do I Misunderstand The Double Slit Experiment

[ QUOTE ]
How are you observing the photons passing through the slit from so far away? I don't think a telescope is sufficient. Based on my understanding, you have to actively interfere with the...

Re: Do I Misunderstand The Double Slit Experiment

[ QUOTE ]
I run the double-slit experiment but do not observe the slit the electrons travel through. Someone a light-minute away with a powerful telescope flips a coin to decide whether to observe...

Re: Do I Misunderstand The Double Slit Experiment

[ QUOTE ]
This is essentially correct, barring the fact that you can't just use a "movie camera". After all, you can see the interference pattern while *looking* at the beam hitting the slits. You...

Re: Do I Misunderstand The Double Slit Experiment

This is another example of a paradox that I have been wondering about for awhile.

Apparent Paradox:

I run the double-slit experiment but do not observe the slit the electrons travel through....

Re: GRE study help-classical physics

To restate, when combining moments of inertia you need to add the seperate moments of inertia and account for the displacement from the rotation axis.

I= I(disk) + I(child) + m(child)*r^2

where...

Re: classical physics - rod anchored to ground, rotational inertia

On further thought I was too quick on the second; you can't assume point masses.
Moment of Inertia of a disc is .5*m*R^2 (rotating perpendicular to plane disc is on)

I can't remember how to add...

Re: classical physics - rod anchored to ground, rotational inertia

I'm taking the Physics Subject test on Nov. 3rd as well.

For the first problem I just use conservation of energy. Initial Potential energy = Final Kinetic Energy
M*g*(height of center of mass) =...

Doesn't sound that psychotic to me. When I drink I can sometimes get schizophrenic. I once thought I was the president of the United States and people were trying to kill me from just alcohol.

Re: Dumb physics question

As the water cools it would freeze and tend to expand. The safe, if strong enough, would exert enough pressure on the water to keep it from expanding. Basically the pressure on the water would...

Re: Religious based moive documentaries: Suggestions? (ie jesus camp)

Not sure if it what you are looking for but I found
"The Most Hated Family in America" on the Phelp's family a pretty good documentary. It should be in 7 parts on YouTube.

Re: math help

There is clearly an error in the equation. If 5/x^2 is equal to 16 then x is equal to Sqrt(5/16). If you plug that value into the left side it is not equal to 16 therefore there is either no solution...
