Re: 5/10 hand at Bellagio

I dont understand why you want to bet small on a draw-heavy flop multi-way, then fold to the raise that you have invited. Why not bet $200 and get the rest in ASAP? That way you can start the review...

Re: Feeling bad on a heater

I try to ignore the dollar movements and judge my performance on the 'Sklansky bucks'. I find this stops me getting too cocky when on a heater, and too depressed when running bad. Its important to...

One is plenty for me

I can only manage to play well at one table.

That said I am currently playing 5-10 (Full ring, but happy to play short-handed to start the game) and believe that I can maintain a long-term winrate...

Re: How to? Convincing yourself it\'s not a lot of money as you move up

For me the solution is simple: I dont think of my bankroll as real money. Its money that allows me to play poker, in order to generate real money.

For me, the real money comes on the 15th of the...

Re: 5/10 anybody rep this card?

Surely there is little chance of a bluff working on the river.

I think bet/shove on the turn is better than bet/call.

If you decide there's a chance of having the best hand + a chance of him...

Re: Nobody plays full ring anymore?

I have dabbled with 6-max and multi-tabling over the years.

I'm currently playing ONE TABLE OF FULL RING, for a number of reasons, including

1. I play better when I give my full concentration...

Re: What to learn in what order..?

I have just posted on this very subject in my blog

In short, I dont think you can focus on any one concept.

Its a gambling game that rewards aggression

[ QUOTE ]
u check, he bets 185 --> u fold

[/ QUOTE ]

So, basically we say the villain "I'm really not sure where I am here. Tell you what, you bet again and you can take it. Have a nice day!"...

Re: Party ratholing fix coming soon?

I hate rat-holing as much as the next man, but as long as the rules allow it, there's no point in complaining about it.

I would like to see a 1-hour minimum applied to sitting down at the same...

Re: TT in annoying spot

I like to get the money in on the flop against this villain. Sometimes we are good, sometimes not, but I really dont see it as a big mistake to get the money in.

Also, it adds to a strong image...

Re: How can poker be so easy, yet so hard?

Why is there a schoolboy mentality in answering perfectly reasonable posts? It seems that if the first couple of responses are flippant throw-away comments, everybody else jumps on the 'one-liner...

Re: Never Going Busto

What do you think?

To get any good at poker, it seems to me that a player needs to be able to analyse situations and use their own judgement to determine what is a decent strategy.

These...

Re: how does this bankroll plan sound?

Yes, I have still withdrawn after a losing month.

I'm not perfect on this discipline, btw. I have trashed a few bankrolls in my past, by moving up and chasing losses.

I believe it is a good...

Re: Bankroll. Where to use it

You can probably answer this qustion yourself, but you need to know the answer to many other questions first.

1. DO you prefer live or online?
2. How tough are the games live? Is the rake very...

Re: HELP! I need Somebody! Implied Odds.

I like to think in terms of what I need to win on future bets to justify the call.

You dont need to be able to calculate formulae to the nth degree. Just keep it simple.

eg. You have AQ suited...

Re: Shortstack strategy

Short-stackers are not something you need to worry about much IMO.

Just dont give them excessive action and they wont do much better than break-even over the long-run.

More annoying for me:...

Re: how does this bankroll plan sound?

I would build in some sort of withdrawal schedule.

I currently withdraw 10% of my month-end bankroll, because its nice to see something tangible for your efforts, no matter how small.

Also,...

This is what I do

I have thought long and hard about this over the years, and the answer is you need to come up with a formula that helps you achieve your goals in a steady and sustainable way.

My goals are
1....

There are other possibilities here that must all be weighted into any decision. Its not just a simple question of pot odds, which taken alone does not justify a call.

1. Remaining stacks
- does...

Re: Why FR?

I think there are more opportunities for opponents to play badly in FR than in 6max.

General poker mistakes are exacerbated by playing FR :
- playing too loose
- playing out of position too...

Re: When all-in, any tips for mentally adjusting to the drama of it?

You could try Mike Caro's tip: root for the other guy. If he wins you are pleased because your guy won. If he loses, you get the consolation prize: the pot.

Personally, this doesnt work for me.

Re: 10/20nl tough river decision.

I dont understand why you dont just shove all-in on the turn and let him make the decision.

If he made a set, tough luck, but he put in a good chunk pre-flop to make it. You cant ask for a much...

Re: tilt control book

I'm not sure any book will provide you with the quick fix you are looking for.

YOU NEED TO WORK THIS OUT FOR YOURSELF.

You need to understand, amongst other things:
- what triggers (and stops)...
