As pointed out in Super System, a lot of the value in AK comes from the fact that its a hand you can get away from if you miss the flop.
AA, KK on the other hand can lead to getting stacked on...

good point...Given the check, villains bet is more likely to be with a marginal hand or possibly a bluff than if he called or raised if you bet the turn. I'd argue that this adds to my earlier point...

If you think you have better than a 50% chance of winning the pot IF CALLED then you get value with the raise on river. But, what if it's NL? In NL, I'd argue that a check here is appropriate...
