Most Christians I know would ask firt about holding big get togethers all the time (Bible study, dance party, movie night, etc). If they are really taking over the place you should talk with them....

The interesting part about playing as a hobby is that then it may take years to really overcome the long swings you talk about. In my graph above I broke even for almost a year.

how many full BB mistakes can you make in a typical CA mid-stakes game per hour and still be a decent winner. e.g. you play solid poker most the time but then make a few stupid...
