As played, I call here as a full house would be completely ridiculous given the action and a flush or a straight would be stupid to bet on that river. But then again, who says he ain't stupid!?

Wow, this one is tough. However, I think you played it optimally, but by a very thin margin (flop fold is absolutely an alternative). I don't think you have to be afraid of neither top set or top two...
