Isn't that a problem inherent in systematic punishment? Mandatory minimums remove discretion from individual cases and paint them all with the same brush. It seem that both have their faults, but...

What pisses me off the most is that, if he had intercourse with the 15 year old, he would have received a far lighter penalty, but oral sex gets him 10 years.

Prisons would likely not go away, and idiotic convictions surely wouldn't. Whatever punishment scheme that ACism produces, stupid cases like this won't disappear. To blame statism for this is being...

Aside from the ass-backwards law and the fevered prosecutor, the real oddity is why the law wasn't allowed to be retroactively applied to the case which spurred the laws creation.
