both of my rings are platinum. it doesn't scratch much (although I did put a gouge in it by brushing into a metal post) but it loses its shine fairly quickly. Prepare to have it shined up every year...

As a poster above noted, socks should match the pants. So beige socks are OK with beige (Khaki) pants.

With jeans, I think the rules get tossed out and you match your shirt instead - think grey...
