Re: How tight early on?

This sort of hand you either play strongly or don't play it at all. AQ isn't AK but it's still a strong holding.
I prefer a big raise. If I get head to head I'm looking pretty good, if I'm against...

Re: $16 - so I tried to limp AQ

I'd never, never, never limp with AQ. It's a hand that does not play well in a multiway pot but much better vs one opponent. You want to drive out all the the 7T suited who hits a pair on the flop. ...

Re: How tight early on?

I think the same way about AQ, it's a better AJ and not a poor AK. I'm not happy with a small raise as I want only one or zero callers. If I'm first to speak or checked to, I'm making a continuation...

Re: Find the 15% leaks.

Limping with a small pair I'd say is mandatory from any position in early rounds. prefer that to AQ, AK where you have to raise, make a continuation bet and generally put your stack in jepordy.

Re: $16 - so I tried to limp AQ

Preflop you should have either raised about 6xBB or folded. AQo is the sort of hand that doesn't play well against many callers. You want to be up against one or zero callers.

Re: How tight early on?

I'm not sure. Certainly UTG I'm folding. UTG + 1 I'm very probably folding. UTG + 2 I might or might not raise 5xBB. MP1 and less I'm rasing 5xBB.

I don't want to get knocked or get crippled on...

Re: $22 AK line check

I wouldn't call, Villans betting on the flop strongly indicates a draw. 5/images/graemlins/diamond.gif about the worst card you could see after 7 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

Only 10% of the time...

Re: How tight early on?

I was a bit worried about UTG+1, it seems fine for a MTT but thought it to loose for hand one of a SnG. If consensus is otherwise then that's good for me.

Re: ($12) I\'m not going broke with TPTK. Yeah, right...

I agree, your flop bet should have been near pot sized otherwise you give villian good odds to draw and beat you.

How tight early on?

You hold AQ offsuit in the first hand of a Party Poker 50 dollar, 10 seat Sit N Go. If everyone folds to you, what seat would you be in before you came in with a raise?

Re: Do you smell trips?

That's possible but you don't know. It must be a close run thing one way or the other. At least nobody so far has convinced me otherwise.
I'd rather fold, I still have enough chips to take better...

Do you smell trips?

33 dollar NL Hold'em on Party. In a couple of games recently I've had AA on the first hand. I've made a four or five times BB raise had one caller, flop comes three rags. I make a near pot sized...

Re: Early round ‘Best Strategy’

That's rather what I thought. Does anybody have a view on which is best? Would you say it's simply a matter of whatever suits best?

Early round ‘Best Strategy’

Is there a definite ‘Best Strategy’ for the early rounds of the tournament, say the first hour or so until blind sizes become significant?

Are folk taking every opportunity to see a cheap flop or...

Re: Flop top set - how do I extract the most?

I'm assuming a situation where you are fairly sure you have the best hand. Sure, you're not putting much in the pot if you think you might already be beaten.

Re: Flop top set - how do I extract the most?

You should never, never give a free card when there is a resonable chance of being outdrawn. If anybody could demonstrate a counter example to my asserstion I'd be pleased to hear it.

Re: Loose calls are death to your game.

Thanks for taking the trouble to give a detailed analysis of the hand. I don't take issue with anything here.

On the face of it my play does look far from optimal, however, after sleeping on it...

Re: Loose calls are death to your game.

The reasons you give are all very good. I like the point about not revealing my loose play. I called him simply because I thought he was making a move. As there was quite a bit in the pot other...
