In general, if n > m as in your example, the problem is underdetermined. You have m equations and n unknowns. In your example, the vector (0.3, 0.4, 0) is also a solution.

You are correct, it is not a coincidence, and the symmetry requirement on the distribution is not needed.

If we define the mass distribution as m*f(x), then we can solve the problem...

d-x=(h-deltah) tan(theta)
Eliminating h and solving for x:
x=(d + deltah tan(theta))/2

We also have sin(theta) = d/L
So tan(theta) = d/sqrt(L^2 - d^2)

This gives the solution:
