I left out the signs because they become +1 in the end. The (-1)^n from the -4 and the (-1)^n from the -1/2 join forces to become (-1)^2n = +1.

I agree that the majority of the book is applicable, if perhaps not as relevant, as, say, the advice in HoH. But is it not important to 2+2 to have all of the advice be correct, as opposed to 98%?...

4^n(1/2 choose n) = (4^n/2^n) ((1*3*5*...*2n-1)/n!)=
=2^n*((2n!)/((2n)*(2n-2)*...*(4)*(2)*n!)=(2^n/2^n)(2n!/(n!n!))=
= 2n choose n
