Re: Just A Reminder About Religious People

Re: Could We Have Won Vietnam?

Grunching,

Counter-insurgency wouldn't have worked, even if following the british Oman model (which is the bomb) because you'd have the chinese and the soviets doing pretty much the same thing...

Re: I don\'t know anything about politics

"The prince" by Machiavelli is an entertaining read. Not because it is very endearing, but it WILL put politics into a historical context for you.

And don't trust stuff blindly. Political history...

Re: If math were a color, it would be...

It is probably good. Too much heavy emphasis on formalized math could potentially remove much of the intuitivity of it, creating a barrier between the paper math and everyday situations.

I think...

Re: Just A Reminder About Religious People

Call me a skeptic, but 'there are two types of ...' statements don't sit well with me. I like 'em when they are used in jokes though, that's fun.

Re: How does my dog know to look at my face?

Facial recognition seems like a good adaptive trait, so having it probably means you survive easier and pass along your genes easier. As for why it looks at your face, most mammals share some facial...

Absurd. Having a government undermines property rights in the first place. That said, some gov't somewhere might have done something vaguely resembling this - I don't know, I'm not a...

Re: Is Neo-Atheism The Way to Go? [Poll]

Civil debate does not need the debaters to think rationally, it only needs them to behave at some tolerable level of politenss.

There is no need to hide that many atheists, especially young ones,...

Re: Is Neo-Atheism The Way to Go? [Poll]

I don't see why you can't advocate strong atheism without being civil. I don't see anything uncivil about hefty disagreement.

Re: Can you believe in certain things without being religious?

Religion can be a lot of things, it doesn't have to mean believing in a god or some such. Believing in reincarnation can certainly qualify in the eyes of some people.

And if you look at atheism as...

Re: Electron microscope analysis of steel spheres from WTC site

I know you didn't mean to imply that. I don't think conspiracies don't happen, but I don't think 9/11 was an internal US conspiracy either - it would simply be too big. If you want a really good book...
