SnG: An all in on the first hand.

Stars 1000. Your opponent is a total unknown. He open shoves the sb first hand. What should your calling range be?

KK+

Why risk it all until you have reads on him?

wow.

edit: Because if I have QQ it's like him handing me money? Same thing w/ JJ and several other hands.

Would you call an all-in on the first hand with AK? I might do QQ, sure, but not JJ or lower. Race for all my chips on the first hand? No thanks - I'd rather have the opportunity to outplay my opponent. There's plenty of opportunities in HU.

I posted almost the same thing before I saw this post.

I think I call with QQ, KK, AA only, in this situation.

Why would he go all in right away instead of waiting for the flop, or turn, get you invested or milk you if you he had AA and nothing scary flopped? Or am I missing some poker lingo that tells me that he didn't shove it all in before the Flop?

If it is before the flop; maybe he has AA, but maybe he doesn't what's he winning the BB if he does? I say give it to him and let him think he can do that whenever he wants, only the next time I have a good hand nail him.

My range is way looser than what has been said.

I do not play these limits...but my range is much looser also. I just don't see a premium hand making this play...instead i see someone trying to create a maniac image early or on drugs. Either way...if your bankroll can handle a little varience, then I see it being EV+ with more hands.

For my answer on lower limits which i am used to, check out my answer on BigBiceps thread.

JJ+ and AK...maybe AQ

OK, let's say hero folds any hand under QQ.

Now let's say hero limps in (or even a 3x raise with whatever) from SB the very next hand...

and villian pushes again...

now what's the calling range?
