Atlantic City article part 2

There is already a thread on the Atlantic City article but I don’t want it to get lost.

Jack Adamo is a good writer and is clearly ambitious offering a good feel and much information on the AC poker scene. Unfortunately many details are wrong and, so far, 2+2 has done nothing to correct it.

In addition to the many other errors mentioned in the earlier thread I have noted the following:

“average hotel room rates were higher than in Las Vegas”
This is an article about poker and the poker rates at the Borgata, Taj and Trop are better than the ones I know of on the strip in Vegas.

“nowhere did I find any 5-card stud, draw poker, or Pot-Limit Texas Hold'em”
Which casinos anywhere in the US have these games and why is it relevant?

“you may be better off walking between casinos or taking a push taxi on the boardwalk”
Jitneys (small buses) run up and down Pacific Ave every few minutes and cost $1.75 to go anywhere including to/from the Borgata. Pacific Ave is the first street you come to when you leave any boardwalk casino.

“One could easily think The Show Boat is called "The House Of Blues."
I am fairly certain the poker room at the Showboat IS called the House of Blues Poker Room. When it opened I saw more dealer and floor errors here than i have all year at all other places. I had to take over the game and issue rulings at one point.

“staying at The Borgata and play poker for 4 hours, your room is just $79 for the day - a huge discount at this very expensive casino. Play for 8 hours and your room is only $59.”
This is good for Sun through Thursday if rooms are available and it’s $39 for eight hours, which is probably the best deal in the country. If you can get the poker rate on the weekend it is $125 or $150 with taxes.

“there's a trap leaving town that you need to be aware of…The Parkway signs are about the size of a dinner plate; they're easy to miss. The exit off the ACE to the GSP is exit #7.”
Trap? I haven’t heard of anyone having a problem with this but if they are you should simply note the mileage markers as you go along since exit 7 is at the 7 mile mark. Also if you’re going to NY and you have been at the Borgata or Harrah’s you could take Rt 30 across the bay and through Absecon to the Parkway north – this saves time and miles; look for the Super 8 and/or Harley Davidson store on the right as the north entrance to the Parkway from Rt 30 is just after them.

Hi Chris:

We have discussed internally the possible errors in this article. As for correcting them, posters, such as yourself, are handling that quite well.

Best wishes,
Mason

They bumped the Jitney fare up to $2.

I dont know the process with writing for the magazine, but in the future Id be willing to write an article, or better yet a multi part article to get in all the information needed.
If you want to revisit the topic in a few months or a year or so let me know

Wow, I didnt know people got paid to write for this magazine...

My main issue is if they want a new article about AC poker room reviews, I would hate to write it and be told... we dont care to run that type of article again.

If that's a concern for you, maybe drop Ed a line and ask him if there would be an interest in an article exploring Subject X that has already been written about but covering it in a new way...

I haven't been to Bally's in a long time, but I seriously doubt they get any big games going there. That can't be true.

I have driven from AC to New York dozens of times and I have never missed the exit on the AC Expressway. I have no idea what he is talking about. There is a clear sign that says, "Garden State Parkway North".

I was in Bally's this past August. The poker room seemed pretty dead. I didn't bother playing. These days, table games are an afterthought in the casinos. Everything is video slots.

That said, I enjoyed the article and found it informative, especially regarding the poker deals at the Borgata. That's where I'll be the next time I hit AC.

The article also confirmed what I have believed and what 2+2 doesn't want to believe: that no-limit is the dominant form of Hold'm, not only in tournament but also in cash games.
