joining a softball team/league

co-ed, i believe in the lowest skill level available; really just to hang out with friends & such.

I haven't played softball since maybe 9th grade, but my intention is to try and hit home runs every time. I'm a little bit worried that all the flyballs will end up annoying my teammates. I'm a fairly average-sized guy: 5'10, 190+.

Any tips from you softball vets out there?

Don't try to hit a homerun every time.

If you haven't played since 9th grade, the odds of you hitting a homerun are probably 10,000/1 on any decent size field.

unless ur play baseball like me, dont try and hit homeruns cuz it pissed us off cuz u cant do it and u just make it an easier out

swing down on the ball for grounders, make them make a play on you and you can always beat it out. and obviously sometimes ull find a hole.

Given the above, I highly recommend learning how to hit the ball solidly to RF. You will be rewarded with lots of cheap extra bases.

another decent strategy is to swing as half as hard as you can, and you will end up with a lot of soft liners for hits.

swinging for home runs will end up with you looking bad, which is the #1 thing to avoid in these leagues, especially if there are potential chicks to bang.

go to a batting cage and pratice your swing. Try to keep it level, or with a slight loft on in. Work on hitting line drives, they usually result in hits more often. Fly balls of any sort are easy out hits, as are most grounders hit to a man who has played any amount of baseball. Work on base running, be aggressive, especially in co-ed. LOTS OF ERRORS, especially catching ones. Do you play any position well?

o wow, Long time no TSC!

I don't play any position at all, and I was just being glib about hitting homeruns; I'd like to try it but I think my team would seriously start getting pissed at me if i did. I'll probably get stuffed in as catcher or maybe in the outfield, i dunno.

I went to eHow and got some tips on how to hit a softball;
1. right elbow up, not down
2. lean slightly towards the plate
3. track the ball the whole way
4. extend your arms
5. rotate your hips, not your head

This stuff sound about right?
