New Venetian poker room

So it looks like the Venetian poker room is opening on April 1st (http://www.venetian.com/casino/poker_room.cfm). They claim they will be spreading $4-$8 up to $4000-$8000.

Funny.

What evidence is there to suggest that this room won't end up being like just about every other room that has opened in the past year? They all claim they will spread high limit games, but in the end it just turns out to be another joint dealing $2-4, $4-$8, and the mandatory baby no limit game. If Casears can't get anything higher than $6-$12 going (which itself seems to be pretty difficult at times), what makes the Venetian think that they can? I also love how all of the new rooms claim they will offer Stud and Omaha in addition to Hold 'em. How many rooms in the city of Las Vegas are able to get a Stud or Omaha game going on a regular basis?

That being said, it sounds like an awesome room. Hopefully they get a little bit more out of their money than Caesars did.

Yep! One minor point though - The Ventian website says it's actually opening April 2nd. I know The Venetian has put a lot of resources into this project. I think it will be a very nice card room. Poker in Vegas has never been better, at least in terms of the vast number of options.

From what I hear, the Wynn has managed to get a fair amount of high limit action, plus semi-regular mixed games, omaha, and so forth... so it seemingly can be done.

The thing about Wynn, Caesars, and The Venetian is that they each have home-grown high-limit clientele. The folks that can afford to stay at these places don't have any trouble sitting down at a mid-limit game.

One problem, I have heard that the Foxwoods poker room manager is going to head the Venetian room. As anybody that's been to FW's knows, it's not a very well run room.

Bah. I'm one of those in the minority who does not feel that Foxwoods is run all that poorly. I believe the room presents unique challenges simply due to the fact that it has a billion tables. I think the sheer size and number of players make it extremely hard to manage. With only 30-something tables and a fraction of the player volume, the Venetian should seem like a cakewalk. We'll see.

You are definately right about that... I don't except that room size excuse, either... There are rooms in Arizona and California almost as big, and I never had the problems there I encountered at Foxwoods...

Well, let me just say that I've been playing at Foxwoods pretty regularly for about 3 years now and have never had a problem with management. But then again I'm a pretty easy going guy. I show up, put my name on the list, get seated, play, then leave. I never have any problems.

Hmm, this is interesting - I'm going to be staying at the Venetian for work next month. If noone has yet, I'll provide a trip report. Don't really know what their differentiators will be, but we'll see.

Cathy? In the one year, and two different shifts I've worked there, I've never seen her. Ever.

I knew she was resigning, but I didn't know she was going to the Wynn
