SNG\'s VS Multi

If you had to make one suggestion for a sitngoer who is wanting to dabble in big multi-table tourneys or perhaps even major events, what would it be. Obviously STT strategy will only get you so far because you're basicly letting yourself get depleted and waiting for others to bust, thereby increasing your own ev. In a multi you'd constantly be on the brink of elimination.

I don't play MTT's but I think you need to open your game up a little bit and push wider at the end, cuz MTT's are more about accumulation than survival.

I have played some small stakes mtts in the past so i have no idea what to do in the big events or anything but my two cents is...

Buy Harrington (sp?) on Hold'em 1 2 & 3
Read a bunch of post in the MTT forum.
Start off playing small stakes like the 180 mans to learn for cheep.
Maybe after a bit hire a coach for a few seshs to sharpen you up even more.

Hope this helps.

Learn cash so that you can get familiar with how you will typically play in the beginning of MTTs.

my one suggestion would probably be to read some good players' mtt articles to gain an understanding of the differences. then, apply it. may help to go to mtt forums and go through the FAQ. i have a great link with mtt articles compiled in a blog, but not saved on this computer, if this thread is still up tommorow ill link it.

my actual mtt suggestion would be, learn how to switch gears in big events. i find myself playing tighter than i have ever, and more laggy than anyone else at the table has ever been, both in the same events in the span of just a few blind levels. learn to apply these situations and when to turn it up and nit it up, this will really help you figure out MTTs IMO. theres a lot more to it obviously, so good luck with it.

why do you shift gears? to keep your image laggish and then punishin them with your big hands on your nit gear?

Re: SNG\'s VS Multi

thats a possibility, but more that, for example, early game mtt allows for justifiably laggy play (which you cannot really justify in a stt), but within the first few levels stacks and blinds may only allow for nitty mcnitness. its a bigger gap in adjustment than most other games with the nature of swinging stacks and big big fields.
