Re: EU countries where gaming is regulated and legal

As you say, you can certainly base an online poker site in the UK, although not many have done so to date... taxes are much heavier than Gibraltar / Isle of Man etc. But this may change, depending on how heavy the EU wants to get about US Trade sanctions etc.

here's a few links for you Blueman:

http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk...?ContentId=260 - The UK Gambling Commision... these are the people who would licence and regulate an inline gaming operation from UK based operator.

http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/...ambling_en.htm - European Single Market documens... lots of them.

and some gossip:
EU calls for US to change internet gambling laws - Peter Mandelson says European gaming companies should receive compensation for US ban

Hope that is of some use, Probably the EU site is of most value.

Re: EU countries where gaming is regulated and legal

The EU court has consistently ruled that gambling is included in the free trade agreement and that any duly licensed provider in any EU country can advertise and operate accross the EU. There are some state monopolies resisting this but essentially they cannot get away with it the EU courts will get them in the end even if it takes years. The EU courts are like the WTO they take a lot of time but unlike the WTO they are 100% binding in the end no shaddy deals just a judgement on the case, by case, by case, by case.......

It is legal and regulated in the EU it just gets a bit messy in a few jurisdictions until the case is heard.

Re: EU countries where gaming is regulated and legal

Gaming is legal and regulated in Germany. At least parts of it.

Casinos are regulated by the individual states (Bundesländer). Online gambling is not legalized, but it is not being prosecuted against. We only have commercials for .de or .net versions of pokersites, because advertising gambling is illegal. (so only free-money sites in ads)

It is a little different for sports betting. There is a joint state monopoly on this. However there were some old GDR licences aroung that were allowed to break this monopoly, but these have been revoked. Advertising for this is again a right held by the individual states, so some sports teams have to use different ads on their jerseys in away games...
